WEEK 1
AUGUST 9 TO 13

 

KA417 FUN WITH ART FROM OTHER WORLDS

Instructor Heidi Rodhe
9:30am – 11:30am

Come and discover art forms from other cultures/worlds featuring hands on projects. Stencil drawings, prehistoric cave paintings, cartouche, Egyptian hieroglyphs, Greek & Roman-incised drawings of myths, Medieval-letters in name in style of illuminated manuscripts.

 

KP418 FUN WITH POTTERY

Instructor Nazila Bolourian
9:30am – 11:30am

In this fun class the child will learn to manipulate clay and create objects that are both lasting and useful. Lots of individual attention and guidance helps children develop dexterity and appreciate works of art that are produced by their own skill, vision and creativity.

 

KA419 NEPTUNE’S WORLD

Instructor Andrea Seibt
1:00pm – 3:00pm

Let your imagination run wild as you paint the natural beauty of a coral reef or the imagined beauty of a enchanting mermaid. Instructor Andrea, a marine biologist will make the ocean come alive through collage, painting and drawing. Learn what lurks in the deep sea while creating masterpieces that tell a story about colourful sea creatures.

 

KP420 FUN WITH POTTERY

Instructor Sonia Silano
1:00pm – 3:00pm

Clay is a wonderful, tactile medium. Its three dimensional nature forces them to think about structure, shapes and forms. Children will experiment with a variety of building techniques while they learn to think about their ideas and adapt to change along the way. Students are assured of lots of personal attention and time on a potters' wheel as well. New projects every week.

KA421 LEARN TO PAINT & DRAW

In these art classes children will enjoy exploring their creativity as they imagine, design, sketch, draw and paint using a wide variety of artist materials and techniques. Release your child's inner artist through an artistic journey exploring a variety of media including paint, pencils, pastels and collage.

AUGUST 23 TO 27


KA425 MANGA ART

Instructor Bruce Outridge
9:30am – 11:30am

Create your favourite action heroes and learn the fundamentals of the popular style of Japanese comic art known as of Manga. Kids will learn about character development, pen and ink, and painting techniques used in comic book creation.

 

TEACHER'S BIOGRAPHIES

NAZILA BOLOURIAN - A natural born artist and teacher, Nazila graduated with a Honours BA in ceramics from Camberwell School of Art and Design, London England. She has been working in clay since 1995, showing her pieces in numerous shows and galleries across the globe. She enjoys sharing her love of clay with others.

 

LUCY ERSKINE - has been an internationally renowned jewellery artisan for more than thirty years. Her unique creations have been displayed in many prominent juried shows and gallery exhibitions. Students appreciate her enthusiasm and enjoy  learning her distinctive, refined wire art techniques.

 

BRUCE OUTRIDGE - Bruce brings his expertise to the Oakville Art Society’s children’s and adults class programs. Specializing in custom illustration for the transportation industry as well as the creator of the comic strip “The Pride Junkie” Bruce operates his own illustration company in Burlington, Ontario. He has studied in various courses within Ontario including Sheridan College, individual art courses, and the Halton Board of Education.

 

JANET PARSONS - A recent graduate from the Sheridan Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning, Janet is armed with a Bachelor of Applied Arts Illustration program.  She enjoys traditional painting, conceptual art and design. She hopes to pursue her career as a freelance illustrator and one day teach illustration.

 

HEIDI ROHDE - a Burlington Artist who taught Visual Arts for many years and now enjoys painting full time, both in the studio and outdoors, en plein air. Landscape, particularly the Escarpment is a favourite subject. She enjoys working in pastels, watercolour and acrylic. She is Vice President of Pastel Artists Canada.

 

ANDREA SEIBT - A marine biologist turned visual artist Andrea captures the beauty of marine life, the amazing colours and reflections of the underwater environment, on canvas. Her paintings are based on reality, but intertwined in her art is fantasy and imagination. A hands-on teacher Andrea shares her enthusiasm and knowledge for art. She has had several solo and group shows.

 

SONIA SILANO– Sonia’s goal is for students to enjoy themselves while developing their artistic ability using the three dimensional medium of clay. She loves to teach and to inspire children to find their own style in art.

 

RHONDA THIBODEAU – Is a graduate of Sheridan College’s School of Crafts and Design. She is currently a full time potter in the Burlington area. Her work experience includes teaching adults and children to produce glaze ready wares while educating them on the process of making ceramics.
