The Fine Print :
OAS Refund Policy: In the event that the required number of registrants is not reached, we reserve the right to cancel the class up to one day prior to the starting date.
Due to the nature of our operation there will be absolutely no refunds given one week prior to the starting date of a class. Payments for classes cancelled by the OAS will be fully refunded. Refunds due to the withdrawal of a student will be subject to a $20.00 administration fee.

Table covers are mandatory and are the responsibility of the students. Students must provide their own supplies.

Adult classes are geared to ages 18+. Adult students provide their own supplies. Please note that NO turpentine/linseed oil based solvents will be permitted. Oil painters must clean their brushes with vegetable oil or soap & water. Alternately, water-based oil paints are available at all art suppliers. Start dates are estimates only and may be subject to change.s.

201A: No Fear- Paint with ACRYLIC! - Beginners

Instructor: Gail Mowat
Mondays, 9:15 to 12:15
Class Start: January 16th

Always wanted to paint with acrylics but weren't sure where to start? This class will explore the many ways acrylics can be used, from transparent to opaque, with everything in between. Learn about under-paintings, glazing, gel mediums, positive and negative painting and much more. This is a great    opportunity to play, learn and just have fun with paint.

 

 

202A: Watercolour for Beginners

Instructor: Jayne Cangemi
Mondays, 1pm to 4pm
Class Start: January 16th

This class is designed for people who are new to watercolors or those who wish to review the basics. You will learn wash techniques, paint properties, effects of light and shadow, negative painting, how to mix greens, landscape basics and be introduced to compositional elements. There will be demonstrations and lots of individualized instruction. This is a fun class taught in a casual and positive atmosphere.

203A: Architectural & Urban Art in Acrylics Beginners to Intermediate

Class Start: January 16th

Traveling this year?  Do you want to relay the excitement of unique Moorish architecture or Tuscan scenery; do you want to paint realistic houses, buildings and the cityscape? Then this class is for you. Good drawing is always the very essence of all our works of art. Learn to discover the values of light and dark. Find your unique style of rendering and experience the art of good design. Each student will be helped to work at their own level and receive lots of useful instruction.

 

214P: Digital Photography - Beginner to Intermediate

Photography is harder than it looks and  is both an art and a science. Painters, sculptors, and potters are creating photographic work to use as    reference for their medium of choice. This course is for beginner and intermediate photographers who wish to understand both the photographic process and how to take better pictures. A mixture of classroom, assignments, and review will guide students through the process of taking great pictures that tell stories.

204A: The Joy of Painting in Acrylic - Intermediate

Instructor: Heidi Rohde

This course is designed for students with some previous acrylic painting experience or would like to learn more advanced methods and techniques in an effort to create a more personal painting style.  This class will focus on      improving skills and techniques – get a firm grasp on the five principles that cover all aspects of painting: Drawing, Values, Concept / Composition, Color & Technique. Heidi will help you break down your fears of paint, while encouraging spontaneity needed to grow and achieve your individual painting goals.

 

205A: CREATIVE COLOUR EXPLORATION

Beginner to Intermediate

Class Start January 17

A drawing, mixed media course combining colour and good drawing fundamentals to develop and fine tune the artist. This class features a special emphasis on colour theory, and drawing observational skill, along with individual attention to ensure success. Colour will be featured and skill will be enhanced working with mixed media - coloured pencil, pastel, watercolour and/or acrylic wash technique. A fun course for beginners and advanced alike.

 

206J: – Techniques In Wire Jewellery - Beginners

Instructor: Lucy Erskine

Class Start January 17

In this course, award winning jewellery designer/artist Lucy, will help you    master the basics of wire jewellery making. Shape and hammer wire just like the professionals and build your skills up to soldering sterling silver. Learn     methods that result in quality pieces and findings to create beautiful jewellery for yourself or for gifts.
Please note * Materials are extra - copper and sterling silver wire, gems and solder- cost estimated between $40 to $50 depending on current price of silver.

207A: Abstract art in Oils, Acrylics or Mixed Media: - Beginner

Instructor: Judy Mayer-Grieve
Wednesdays, 9:30 to 12:30
Class Start January 18

Just take a deep breath and make a mark on the canvas – not a delicate teensy mark, a big bold swath of paint and let it come to you! This class offers a fun and intensive experience that will give you the information needed to practice different techniques for developing original abstract art.  Judy will demo techniques and provide constructive critiques as she guides you through this creative process to find your artistic voice.

 

208A: Exploring Colour & Creativity in Watercolor -Intermediate to Advanced 

Instructor: Shelley Prior
Wednesdays, 1pm to 4 pm
Class Start January 18

This class is designed for students with some experience in watercolor.     Emphasis in this class is on working with the elements that make watercolor unique and challenging--the water itself, the hues of different paints, and the complexities of various paper surfaces. Shelley will help you understand the more difficult aspects of working in this beautiful medium - including composing a successful painting, experimental approaches, developing style and theme, and seeing and capturing the effects of light.



209A: The Beauty of pastels - All levels

Instructor: Heidi Rohde
Wednesdays, 7 pm to 10 pm
Class Start January 18

Pastels are an exciting and immediate medium incorporating both drawing and painting simultaneously, they have a depth and richness to them that is unique. Enjoy experimenting with this relatively forgivingas you    explore various techniques that bring out the true beauty of pastels; line work, blending, color theory, and the role different paper surfaces have in creating texture. Fundamentalsdrawing will be covered as part of the class.




215J: Advanced Wire Jewellery  Intermediate to Advanced

8 classes  Costs: Members: $160.00          Non-Members: $185.00

Class Start January 18

Refine your design and metalsmithing skills as you delve further into the      medium. Feel a sense of accomplishment as you advance your artwork to the next level. Lucy will introduce new techniques and projects to fire up your  imaginations and polish your skills. Rings, bracelets and earrings will be    further enhanced with decorative applications. Alternatives to soldering, such as silver riveting, as well as practicing soldering with advanced skills, opens up the jewellery art field to you. You must be familiar with jeweller's tools and silver soldering. This class is not suitable for beginners.

210A: Creative Mixed Media & Collage  All levels

Instructor:  Gail Mowat
Thursdays, 9:30 to 12:30
Class Start January 19

Collage is an easy-to-use, powerful tool for any artist. Use it to add texture, personal imagery, photos, & memorabilia to your paintings. Gail will help you think about design and begin abstract thinking. Learn new ideas in techniques of layering, experimenting with a variety of papers; work with found objects and even cutting up old unresolved paintings. This class is for all levels and serves as an excellent means to increase the artist’s awareness of shape, color, hard and soft edges, and textures. Lots of demonstrations, individual and class critiques. Extra materials, papers will be available for purchase cost estimated between $20 to $30. Payable to the instructor.



211A: Portrait Painting with Creativity - Oil or Acrylic - All levels

Instructor: Judy Mayer-Grieve
Thursdays, 1 to 4 pm
Class Start January 19

Take the dread out of painting people. This class covers all aspects of painting a traditional portrait. Judy will lead you through the steps you need to understand. Such as anatomy, structure, achieving a likeness, composition, lighting, mixing flesh tones and applying paint through various techniques to paint a finished portrait. Lots of demos and tips. Importance is placed on personal and inner artistic expression. Some drawing skills are needed for this class.

 


212A: CREATIVE  Watercolour Beginners to Intermediate

This course is designed for students who have taken a watercolor class or have dabbled enough to know that watercolors have their own agenda. You will build on previous skills and learn additional tips on how to handle this exceptional medium. With lots of demos and practical exercises, students will learn to be more creative& daring with colour,   composition, & texture. If you have a passion for watercolor and want to learn more, this class is for you!

218P: All about pottery - Beginner

Instructor: Margie Boden
Tuesday, 9:30 am to 12:00 pm
Class Start January 17


This is a beginner’s pottery art class, designed to take you through a fun journey of exploration in basic clay techniques both on and off the pottery wheel. Demonstrations will cover wedging, centering, and forming shapes such as vases, mugs, bowls and plates. You will learn basic glazing and decorating techniques, and be introduced to kiln firing.

 

219P: Wheelies - POTTERY ON THE WHEEL - All Levels

Instructor: Rhonda Thibodeau
Tuesday, 7 to 9:30 pm
Class Start January 17

A ball of clay is placed in the center of a turntable or 'wheel.' The wheel rotates rapidly while the solid ball of soft clay is pressed, squeezed, and pulled gently upwards and outwards into a hollow shape. This class is for beginners but will also serve as a refresher course. We will explore the basics of centering the clay and forming shapes such as a cylinder and continue to mugs and small serving bowls. No experience required.

For those with experience of ceramics, expand and develop your skills. Students who have grasped the basics of wheel throwing can expect to learn how to make complex forms and to consider the aesthetics of the forms in relation to their function. Learn to obtain a high standard of finish, together with a comprehensive study of glazing techniques. Emphasis on  advanced wheel throwing techniques with some hand built features.

221P: Play in Clay - The art of HandBuilding - All Levels

A pottery course for adults who are certain of their curiosity, but unsure of their talent. Share the miracle of turning mud into functional objects with award winning instructor Monika Schaefer. Throwing on the pottery wheel gets all the glamour, but hand building is really where it's at!  Techniques in hand building will be explored as we make all sorts of crazy and funky,      functional and decorative pieces, from critters to platters to mugs to bird   houses.  Loads of fun
