Art shows play an important role in the life of the OAS. They provide an opportunity for artists to show and sell their work, afford the OAS with an opportunity to raise funds to subsidize programming and act as a venue for furthering interest and knowledge of the world of art.
One of the Society's most gratifying shows and open to anyone who was a student in the previous 12 months. The Oakville Art Society students exhibit some of their most successful works which have been created in the various classes during the year. This weekend show, held in the painting studio in the spring always draws a crowd of student's family, friends and instructors and is a real inspiration to everyone. Annual Art Auction Traditionally held during in the Spring, this invitational event is one of the highlights of the OAS season. Usually held in Centennial Gallery located in the main library building on Navy Street, the auction attracts over 200 art patrons who are able to enjoy all the excitement of a live auction hosted by a professional auctioneer. Participating artists are selected by a committee who make their selections based on a combination of criteria which ensures that the art selected represents a good cross section of both accomplished and emerging artists. This event was first held in 1975, and has since become an annual outdoor art show and sale usually held on Civic Holiday Monday in every August. Art in the Park was originally held in coronation Park where Oakville Art Society had its first home, since 1996 the show has been held in Waterfront Heritage Park located in the Bronte Harbour area. This show boasts only original work with emphasis being placed on painting, pottery, sculpture, woodworking, photography and artists are chosen for their originality and command of their chosen medium. Art in the Park is one of Oakville's premiere community events and attracts both artists and visitors throughout the southern Ontario region. 2007 Art in the Park Pictures click here The Teacher's Show is held annually in the OAS gallery. It is a showcase of our teacher's professional creative skills and their latest works. The OAS Teacher's Show is held in late summer and draws fellow artists, members and especially interested students who enjoy seeing the talents of their prospective teachers. This event is designed to showcase the best works of all OAS members. Works on display cover a broad spectrum of mediums, styles and degrees of accomplishment. The show provides an opportunity for the community to become more familiar with the OAS and its members. Christmas Show |
