ART

Expand your child's imagination by engaging them in fun and productive classes. These classes are designed not only to ignite a child's imagination but to help build art knowledge, artistic techniques, fine motor skills and confidence. Classes will encourage creativity and self-expression while  enhancing their  understanding of art mediums and visual communication

 

 

MBA 101 Adventures in Color, Texture & Pattern

Let young imaginations soar! Creative thinking will be encouraged by exploring a variety of media, including collage, paint, and pastel. Young artists will discover not only the building blocks of art - colour, line, texture, shape and composition, but also new ways to see and express a world of both form and fantasy.

 

 

MBA 102 Creating Cartoons

Bruce Outridge
1pm to 3pm


Unlock your child's artistic gifts through the capable tutelage of Bruce Outridge, a professional comic book artist and creator of Pride Junkie.Students will create caricatures and cartoons from  idea to finished product using a variety of artist's tool and materials, including pencil, pen, ink, paint and more. Students will design funny faces, outrageous bodies and the many dynamic actions and unique stories that go along with   these new characters.

 

 

POTTERY

Working with clay is a great sensory experience; it helps fine-tune motor skills and encouraging playfulness. The students will learn to manipulate the clay and gain an understanding of the properties of clay; its strengths and weaknesses, and how to ensure that the desired effect can be achieved. They’ll have lots of messy fun as they learn.

 

MBP 103 Play in the Mud!

Kids love playing with mud, it’s messy and fun!

Kirsty will introduce students to the wonderful medium of clay. Working with clay stimulates young minds and exercises their creativity in a tactile way. Students can experiment with a variety of building techniques including coil, sculpture and slab building and they will enjoy learning how to throw on the potter's wheel.

Materials
The Oakville Art Society will supply all materials.

 

Dress Policy
Students are asked to dress informally with casual comfortable clothing.

 

Cancellations

Withdrawals are subject to an administration fee of $25.00

No refunds or credits after March 4th


Should the OAS need to cancel a course due to low enrollment, all
students will be notified 3 days in advance and a full refund issued.

 

Our Instructors

HEIDI ROHDE - a Burlington Artist who taught Visual Arts for many years and now enjoys painting full time, both in the studio and outdoors, en plein air. Landscape, particularly the Escarpment is a favourite subject. She enjoys working in pastels, watercolour and acrylic. She is Vice President of Pastel Artists Canada.

BRUCE OUTRIDGE– Bruce brings his expertise to the Oakville Art Society’s  children’s and adults class programs. Specializing in custom illustration for the transportation industry as well as the   creator of the comic strip “The Pride Junkie” Bruce operates his own illustration company in Burlington, Ontario. He has studied in various courses within Ontario including Sheridan College,   individual art courses, and the Halton Board of Education.

KIRSTY WILSON - received a Bachelor's of Education in Fine Art with a concentration in Ceramics from the University of Toledo, Ohio. She has also studied Ceramic Design at the Glasgow School of Art in Scotland and is currently working on a Post-Graduate Program at the Dundas Valley School of Art. She is an experienced teacher of children and adults and loves to share her enthusiasm of ceramics.
