Welcome To OAS
"Ars Longa, Vita Brevis - Art (is) Long, Life (is) Short"
--Hippocrates

The Oakville Art Society was originally founded in 1965 and is a unique Canadian art institution.

It is completely self-sustaining and relies on its members who volunteer their time and expertise to operate two studios and the gallery shop. Since its beginning, in a small red cottage rented from the town of Oakville located at Coronation Park, the OAS has continued to grow. Now located at 560 Bronte Road, the OAS building houses a large painting studio and a complete potting and sculpting studio.

The Oakville Art Society exists with a charitable purpose to provide facilities and an environment where artistic skills can be developed and to encourage art appreciation. We provide art classes for adults and children of all ages during fall, winter, spring and summer. Bursaries are given to assist the community based on need. We facilitate presentation of local artwork through major art events each year by giving venues for artists to display.

OAS offers a wide variety of art related programs, which will appeal to people of all skill levels. There is space available for members to work on their creations and to socialize. Over the course of a year, hundreds of students, adult and children, will discover the tremendous joy and excitement found in artistic expression.

All the teachers at the OAS are well qualified in their field and medium.

The 170 OAS members are expected to take an active role in the operation of the society. It is only through this active participation that the Society is able to maintain its uniquely independent, self-supporting status, and foster a greater appreciation for art.

The gallery gift shop displays and sells members work.

OAS is wheelchair accessible
